This day tour from Cairo to Alexandria is a perfect opportunity to explore some of Egypt’s most iconic historical sites. The tour starts with a visit to the impressive Qaitbay Fort, which was built in the 15th century and served as a defensive stronghold against invading forces. Next, you will see the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The tour continues with a visit to the catacombs, an underground burial chamber that dates back to the Roman era. You will also see Pompey’s Pillar, a massive granite column that stands over 25 meters tall. Finally, you will visit the New Alexandria Library, which is a modern architectural masterpiece and an important center of learning in the region.
Itinerary
1st. Stop
Qaitbay Fort
Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Cairo/Giza at the scheduled time to begin your tour to the Alexandria (approximately 2.5 hours drive).
Upon your arrival in Alexandria you will start the tour by visiting Qaitbay Fort, a medieval fortress built on the site of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse. Visit the Lighthouse of Alexandria.
2nd. Stop
Kom el Shoqafa
you will head to Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, a complex of underground tombs and chambers dating back to the 2nd century AD.
Lunch break at a local restaurant.
3rd. Stop
Pompey's Pillar
You will continue your tour by visiting Pompey’s Pillar, a towering column that was erected in honor of the Roman Emperor Diocletian.
4th. Stop
Alexandria Library
You will conclude your tour by visiting the modern New Alexandria Library, which houses a vast collection of books and manuscripts.
At the end of the tour your driver will take you back to your hotel in Cairo/Giza
